Kindred have hosted the Sustainable Gambling Conference since 2016 with a simple idea; to bring together the brightest minds across the industry to find ways to secure a sustainable future for the gambling industry.
This year, we set out to create an inspiring and inclusive event that would help the ideas flow. With collaboration and communication at its core, the aim was to connect the key stakeholders in the gambling industry to serve as a catalyst for collaborative efforts within the gambling industry.
Attendees needed to feel comfortable sharing and networking, the focus was to create an inclusive media-style sporting look and feel for the event to facilitate discussion for the 200 experts, both from within and outside the gambling industry. This would be a hybrid event, livestreaming the morning session which enabled press coverage to deliver the key messages the very next day.
We knew the venue needed to WOW. We struck gold with the incredible surroundings of the Kia Oval, London – offering great transport links, as well as a stunning backdrop.
The Greengage EcoSmart platinum certified venue would prove core. Boasting waste management into 10 waste streams, two ORCA anerobic digesters onsite, motion sensored lighting in all areas, a renewable energy tariff and solar panels. All food and beverage containers were reusable or compostable, with water fountains around the space encouraged refills. We would reduce food miles, aim for 40% plant-based ingredients, and use Klimanto to publish the carbon footprint of each menu.

The event was a success from start to finish with great feedback from all involved. Kia Oval became a new favourite venue with no request too much trouble. Kindred kindly donated to Comic Relief on behalf of the speakers as a thank you, adding to the community feel of the event.
Sustainability-wise we were no less successful. Measuring the event’s carbon impact across energy waste, production, catering, crew travel, transport and accommodation: CO2 equivalent of 0.8 cars on the road for one year
